How programmes are built

Every programme is four sessions of two hours with eight seats. Session 1 always teaches the Everyday Loop and rule 3, even when the learner has already taken the foundation course — the recap is ten minutes, not a second curriculum. Sessions 2–4 each add one task from the twelve-task map, written as a card, checked out loud, and taken home.

We do not run mixed task lists in a single sitting. A complaint and a clinic letter in the same two hours produces two half-cards. A programme that names one cluster of tasks produces cards a learner can actually reuse. The comparison table below is the whole catalogue for 2026. Refresher clinics are a format, not a seventh programme; they are listed with fees on the formats page.

Who a programme is for is stated as a starting rung, not as an age. Adults under 55 take the same seats when the task is theirs. Adults who want a product demo, a certification, or help installing an app are pointed to other providers; that work is outside the studio.

The six courses

01

The Everyday Loop

Foundation. Hour one is watching: the four passes demonstrated on a family message. By session 2 the learner types the card. Sessions 3–4 adapt names, dates and the deadline line. Close of programme: L2 on that card. No specialist task is introduced until the sentence in pass 1 holds a verb and a deadline without prompting.

02

Messages that land

Three cards: a family message, a reply to a landlord or contractor, and a short complaint. The room practises stating tone and length in pass 2 (“eighty words, factual, one request”). Private details stay off the tablet. Close: L3 — a new message framed without a model card, then checked.

4 × 2 hours · 8 seats · S$480 · reaches L3

03

Clinic visits and official letters

Two tasks, taught slowly: a question list for a clinic visit, and a reading of an official letter into actions, dates and sender. Rule 5 is on the table throughout. The assistant does not choose treatment, skip a visit, or interpret a letter as legal advice. Figures and dates are checked against the paper the learner brought.

04

Scam-check studio

Suspicious SMS messages and call-back numbers. Rule 3 is taught in the first hour and used as the main exercise: payment, urgency, secrecy. Learners inspect wording; they do not tap links on the lent tablets. Check (c) is practised until “stop” is a short, spoken line rather than a debate.

4 × 2 hours · 8 seats · S$480 · reaches L3

05

Photos, translation and outings

Four lighter admin tasks: labelling photos from the learner’s own captions, translating a posted menu or notice, planning an outing with timings the learner supplies, and a short family-event speech from points they already have. Live transport and weather are never treated as fact from the assistant.

4 × 2 hours · 8 seats · S$480 · reaches L3

06

Household numbers and plans

Comparing two utility or mobile plans using figures from a bill or a tariff sheet, and keeping a simple monthly expense note from receipts the learner brings. The assistant lines up numbers; it does not say which plan to buy or whether a purchase is affordable.

Room

Empty desks by a window in a quiet room
Figure 2 · Partner rooms are set with eight seats, not a lecture row.

What is in the room

Eight chairs at one table, or two tables of four if the partner room is narrow. Large-print loop cards, a task card for the day, pencils, and a folder of prepared wrong answers for pass 3. Tablets are already signed in to a studio account that holds no learner names. Personal phones may be used from session 2 if the learner prefers; the card is still written on paper.

We do not project slides as the main teaching surface. A short demonstration may be shown on one tablet held so the table can see it. The work of the two hours is speaking the frame, typing the ask, saying the three checks, and writing the keep line. Tea is at 1:00. The session ends at 2:00 with one optional practise sentence for the week — not a homework portal.

Limits

Who a programme is not for

The studio will not take a seat for someone who needs help creating an e-mail account, installing an application, or recovering a password. Those are separate jobs; they consume a two-hour session without producing a card. We will also not take a brief to “make someone like AI”, to produce a certificate for an employer, or to give medical, legal or investment advice through an assistant.

If a learner cannot read large-print English, we cannot run the method as written. If a learner needs one-to-one support throughout, a group of eight is the wrong format; write to us and we will say so plainly rather than sell the seat. Closed groups at partner venues still use eight seats and the same clock. They are not private tuition with a different syllabus.
